Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive treatment designed to help your body heal stubborn injuries and chronic pain by stimulating your natural healing processes. At Modern Chiropractic, we use shockwave therapy to help patients recover faster, move better, and get back to doing the activities they love.

What Is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave Therapy uses high-energy acoustic (sound) waves to target injured or inflamed tissues. These sound waves penetrate deep into the affected area and trigger a healing response at the cellular level.

Unlike treatments that simply mask symptoms, shockwave therapy is designed to address the underlying issue by encouraging tissue repair and regeneration.

When acoustic waves (shockwaves) are delivered to an injured area, they help:

  • Increase blood flow to damaged tissues
  • Stimulate collagen production
  • Break down scar tissue and adhesions
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Encourage tissue repair and regeneration

Many chronic injuries become "stuck" in a cycle where healing slows down or stops. Shockwave therapy helps "reboot" the healing process so your body can continue repairing itself.

What Conditions Can Shockwave Therapy Help Treat?

Shockwave therapy is commonly used for chronic musculoskeletal conditions, especially those involving tendons, fascia, and scar tissue. Some of the most common conditions we treat include:

Plantar Fasciitis: Persistent heel or arch pain can be difficult to resolve because the plantar fascia receives limited blood flow. Shockwave therapy helps stimulate healing and reduce pain.

Tendonitis: Such as Achilles tendonitis, tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, patellar tendonitis (jumper's knee), and more. Shockwave therapy can help improve tissue quality and reduce long-standing inflammation.

Shoulder pain conditions such as: Rotator cuff injuries, calcific tendonitis, chronic shoulder dysfunction. Many patients experience improved mobility and reduced pain after a series of treatments.

Scar Tissue & Chronic Muscle Tightness: Shockwave therapy can help break down adhesions and improve tissue mobility, making it a useful option for chronic trigger points and areas of longstanding stiffness.

More About The Treatment:

How does it feel?

Most patients describe shockwave therapy as a series of rapid pulses or tapping sensations over the treatment area. While some areas may feel slightly tender during treatment, the discomfort is temporary and can be adjusted based on your tolerance.

How many treatments will I need?

Every condition is different, but many patients begin noticing improvements after just a few visits. A typical treatment plan often includes 4–8 sessions, depending on the severity and duration of the injury.

Sessions are typically short—often lasting 10 to 15 minutes—and require no downtime afterward. You can usually return to normal activities the same day.

Because shockwave therapy stimulates your body's own healing response, improvements often continue for weeks after treatment.
