This week marks the first week of fall, which is, in our opinion, one of the best times of the year to get outside and enjoy a little family time! Whether you’re looking for a festive weekend outing or a cozy local tradition, Portland and Lake Oswego have plenty of activities to bring everyone together. Here are a few of our favorites:

1. Visit a Local Pumpkin Patch

Nothing says fall like a trip to the pumpkin patch. Sauvie Island Pumpkin Patch is a classic for hayrides, corn mazes, and farm-fresh produce. Closer to Lake Oswego, you can stop by Lee Farms in Tualatin for donuts, cider, and a family-friendly harvest festival.

2. Explore the Fall Colors

Take a weekend walk at Tryon Creek State Natural Area or George Rogers Park to soak in the autumn leaves. For a bigger adventure, Forest Park in Portland is gorgeous this time of year and offers trails for every age and ability level.

3. Go Apple Picking

Head out to Hood River’s Fruit Loop for a day of apple picking and fresh cider tasting. It’s about an hour and a half from Lake Oswego, making it a perfect day trip full of fall flavors.

4. Enjoy a Fall Festival

The Lake Oswego Harvest Market brings together local vendors, seasonal foods, and activities for kids. Portland also hosts plenty of Oktoberfest celebrations if you want a family-friendly mix of live music, pretzels, and seasonal fun.Whether you’re adventuring outdoors, picking apples, or simply enjoying a cup of cider together, these local activities are a great way to enjoy the season as a family.
